PC gets and Uninvited Guest
Jun. 20th, 2009 08:18 amYesterday, I visited Mom only to find that her computer was running software claiming to be "Norton". She has McAfee installed so I asked her what was up. She said that it just popped up and that since it said that her computer was infected, she clicked on scan.
My head in my hands I said Mom, Norton and McAfee won't run on the same computer. Of course, she said 'well they are dear'. Fortunately, I was able to stop her from clicking on the big red "FIX" button that started flashing after I told it to cancel the scan. The box popped up several times trying to force the "FIX" but I was able to delete whatever it was. Scans by Spyware Doctor and McAfee didn't show a virus or trojan afterwards, so am hoping that it didn't leave a nasty surprise behind.
Mom is still convinced that Norton installed itself and started scanning, finding things that McAfee and Spyware Doctor did not. I'm thinking that she needs an Internet Suite with a better firewall than what she is using now. She is running on WIFI (no router). Anyone have any ideas?
