Oh My! What has she done to Erestor?
Jun. 23rd, 2010 06:53 pmHave you ever listened to a conversation with one ear, nodding once in a while to satisfy the speaker? I know better than to do this…but did it anyway. Now, I have agreed to do something, and have no idea where to start…ok...that isn't precisely true. Immediately, I changed the characterization from hobbit/elf to elf/elf. She used Frodo/Elrond and ... well I won’t go there other than to say ICK! The biggest problem is that I agreed to do this for my niece, so feel bound to try. *sigh*
Here is the situation. A few months ago, my niece started talking about trying to write fan fiction in the Smallville fandom. For a couple of years, she made fan fic videos and posted them to Youtube. Of course that came to an end with the site’s copyright fiasco. One of her friends then made the move to writing fan fiction. That inspired her to try her hand at writing, but she didn’t want her first fic to be in the Smallville fandom.
Sooo, her auntie (me) made the suggestion that she look at the LOTR fandom. She was passingly familiar with LOTR, and with a little more research might be able to write a little ficlet. I should have been more precise in my suggestion. At any rate, she thought it to be a great idea.
She is a young attorney, and till recently has been training with a law firm rather than practicing. Now she has cases and little free time. She called and asked me to finish what she had written. Being that it was my niece, I agreed. As I’d never read it, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Then then e-mailed it.
Uh oh. The place she stopped has one of the characters in a bizarre situation. Yes, I did ask what was to happen next. Her response was a big ‘I don’t know but you will think of something.’ Duh… It may take the intervention of the valar to get Erestor out of this.
